Start seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before your last frost date. Place in a warm area to germinate. Plant outdoors once chances of frost have passed. Seeds can also be direct sowed in the garden. Cosmos can tolerate some cool weather. Pinch plants once they've reached 12 inches to encourage branching and more blooms.
Harvesting
Harvesting
Cosmos flowers should be harvested at the 'cracking bud stage' when the buds are coloured but not yet fully open, or when the first few petals have just begun to unfurl. This stage ensures a longer vase life and allows the blooms to fully open after being cut.
